Bio: Lily May was the first child of John Whiting and Kate Kiddy, who ran the Royal Standard pub in Burton End, Haverhill. She was born in 1893(1), and baptised on 7th May 1893(2) according to Familysearch records, although they do not actually cite a source for this information. She appears on the 1901 census living at the pub with her parents and three younger sisters, Beatrice, Gladys and Annie.

On the 1911 census, Lily is 18, single, still living at home and is working as a 'shirt hand' at a clothing factory, probably Gurteens. The family are now residing at 96 Burton End, and John is no longer the publican of the Royal Standard. He is working as a silk weaver instead.

It seems that Lily May never married, and she is almost certainly the Lily May Whiting who died in 1976 aged 83 in the Chelmsford district. The age matches exactly.(3)
