Bio: Caroline Whiting was born in Withersfield in 1863. Her grandfather was George Whiting, who was originally from Haverhill.

We see her first on the 1871 census, living in Withersfield with her parents William, a labourer, Elizabeth and siblings John, Susan, Samuel, Sarah, George and Mary Ann. At some point over the next ten years she found work in Haverhill as a domestic, and we see her in Queen Street fulfilling this role for Mary Ann Vincent, a gentlewoman and widow of 65 on the 1881 census.

When we next see Caroline, she is back at home in Withersfield with her now-widowed mother Elizabeth, and her large family. Caroline and Elizabeth appear to be working as tailoresses, and also at the home are siblings George, Mary Ann, Charles, William and Edith Whiting, who was the daughter of Susan - one of Caroline's sisters. Susan is not present on this census.

Shortly after, Caroline married Ewen Crissal, a brickmaker of Haverhill, and the couple are living together in Withersfield on the 1901 census. They have four children, Ethel, Samuel, Edith and Eliza.

Caroline died at the young age of 44 in 1907. On the 1911 census, Ewen is a widower and brickmaker living at Orchard Cottages, Withersfield with son Samuel and daughter Edith. He remarried in 1917, to Alice Taylor, and eventually died in 1937 in the Cambridge district.
