Bio: Daniel Whiting features on the 1871 census as a scholar living in Burton End with his parents and siblings. The next census in 1881 sees Daniel working as farm labourer, and still living with his parents at Burton End. In 1889 he marries Laura, the sister of George Shipp who had married his own sister Elizabeth Whiting ten years previously. On the 1891 census Daniel and Laura are living at 106 Burton End. Daniel is an agricultural labourer, and Laura is a hair weaver. They now have two sons, Daniel and Albert William. We see from baptismal records that at the time both sons were baptised on 2nd September 1896 the family were living at Hazelstubbs Farm.(5) The 1901 census finds Daniel, Laura, and their two sons living at 6 Nunns Yard, Haverhill. Daniel is still a labourer.

Daniel died prematurely at the age of 33 in January 1902. I'm not sure how he died. We see Laura, now widowed, and her son Albert on the 1911 census still at Nunns Yard, and both working as hair cloth weavers. It seems that Laura never remarried, and died in 1947. She along with Daniel was buried at Haverhill Cemetery.(8,9)
