Bio: Alice is on the GRO birth registers as Elizabeth Alice, although she appears to be known as Alice (or Alice Elizabeth) thereafter. She first appears on the 1871 census with her family in Burton End, Haverhill. Then again in 1881, also in Burton End, but minus her father after his crime of murder and confinement to Broadmoor Asylum. (see Moses Whiting)

Alice was to marry William Radford in 1889, and she appears on the 1891 census as Alice Elizabeth Radford, living at 1 Peas Hill with William who is a cutter, and their 11 month old son Archibald. Alice is working as a machinist.

At some point they moved to Burton End, and are at no.17 on the 1901 census. William still works as a cutter, and Alice a waistcoat machinist. They have one more son, Nelson, who is 2.

They stayed at 17 Burton End, and appear here on the 1911 census. William is a taylors cutter, Alice a machinist, whilst Archibald works as a cycle fitter, and Nelson is a draper. Also living with them is Emma Whiting, a boarder who is listed as married. I think this is Alice's mother, and although he had been removed from her life she was still married to Moses.

It appears from the burial entry at Haverhill Cemetery that Alice ended her days in Melton Asylum. She died here in March 1918, and was buried on 9th March.(4,5) It is not clear what happened to William, or how long he survived Alice.
