Bio:              Sophia's parents James Betts and Sophia Stubbing were married on 30th January 1816 at St Mary's Church, Haverhill.(6)
Sophia herself was born and baptised in 1824 according to a patrons submission to church of the latter day saints (patrons submissions are not always the most reliable source.) On the 1841 census(7) we see Sophia living in Quaker's Lane, Haverhill with her parents, and sisters Harriet and Sarah. Sophia's father James is a wheelwright. Sophia's maternal grandfather Samuel appears to be living with them too. Samuel Stubbing, who is 80, appears on the Suffolk Baptism Index as being the father of Sophia Stubbing.(6) For the next census in 1851, the Betts family remain in Quakers Lane where Sophia's father is still a wheelwright, and she is working as a servant. Her sisters have left home, replaced by a lodger Elizabeth Hayle, 64.
Sophia appears on the 1861 census along with Charles living in Quakers Lane, Haverhill. She died soon afterwards, and was buried on 18th October 1861 at St Mary's Church, Haverhill.(4,5)
